Pakistan Dhoom Concert

On 16 August the Pakistan High Commission dedicated its Independence Day function to a fundraising event – the Pakistan Dhoom 2009 – a concert to raise money for the rehabilitation of the dislocated people of Swat, held at Wembley arena. A galaxy of leading Pakistani stars including Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Reema Khan, Abrar-ul-Haq and Jawad Ahmed performed in a show attended by Pakistanis from all over the UK, as well as the wife of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Mrs Fauzia Gilani. Well-known television presenter Naadia Khan co-hosted the show.

On the occasion, Pakistan’s High Commissioner, Mr Wajid Shamsul Hasan, also presented awards to several organisations and individuals for services to the community. The High Commissioner said that the spirit of Pakistani people reinforces the vision that Pakistan will always be a strong country and achieve progress and further integrity in future.
